For the competitive set, it's hard to beat gunning it around Waterville Golf LInks in a three-day Stableford tournament. Family events are one of Carr Golf's longtime specialties—roughly 70 percent of this year's Father-Son contestants are return visitors—but a few spots are still available in the field. Located in the extreme southwest corner of the Ring of Kerry, Waterville is an excellent place to get away from it all, while the links, polished up by Tom Fazio in the '90s, boasts one of the finest stretch runs in Ireland. Fly fishermen might also note that Butler's Pool, which runs right by Waterville House (the best accommodation in town), is a world-class angling spot. Finally, any daughters reading this with interest should remain unfazed—Carr also hosts a Father-Daughter event at Lahinch and Doonbeg, though the date for that event (July 9–12) is rapidly approaching.
