Callaway X-20
|
|
|
HANDICAP: Mid (10-19)
|
Callaway isn’t known for the cosmetics of its irons, but the X-20 looks as good
as it plays. It has plenty of perimeter weighting, but the X-20 avoids bulk with
“Extreme Notch Weighting” on the rear flange, behind the sole channel.
It
may not resemble a typical Callaway iron, but the X-20’s performance gives away
its identity: A face with variable thickness and a center of gravity six percent
lower than the X-18 make for a very tolerant club. “The club is so forgiving
that I couldn’t tell where on the face I hit the ball,” says a 15. “Off-center
shots seem to fly just as far as solid contact.”
Our testers also liked the
stock graphite shaft. “Impact felt more stable than with most
graphite-shafted irons,” says a 12.
