With a face angle that’s three degrees open, Cleveland’s Hi-BORE XL Tour is a
real player’s club. This is not a club for the faint of heart—or ball flight, as
our testers found. “I know high launch is what you want,” says an 8. “But
sometimes I feel like that leads to ballooning. Not with this.” Unlike a lot of
oversize drivers where the sweet spot is located high on the face, the sweet
spot on the XL Tour is lower—resulting in a penetrating ball flight—and 10
percent larger than a traditionally shaped 460cc driver. “I was able to work the ball,” says a 2. “Unlike most oversize drivers, which have closed faces, the open face gives me the confidence to hit the power fade, my preferred shape off the tee. I can really let it rip knowing the ball won’t go left.” |
