TaylorMade r7 irons
HANDICAP: Mid (10-18)
With moderate offset, deep-cavity design and “inverted cone technology” that improves ball speed on mis-hits, the TaylorMade r7 is a very forgiving club. An aluminum vibration-dampening web gives the club a nice quiet feel and helps absorb shock. “Even mis-hits felt good,” says a 16.

Although the typical ball flight is high and straight, the club’s classic shape allowed our testers to work the ball somewhat, although not as much as with the r7 TP model. The lofts are strong, especially in the short irons (the PW is 45 degrees). “It’s got the best of both worlds,” says a 12. “I like the high ball flight, but it’s reassuring to know I can hit it lower when necessary.”
