Titleist is known for making serious clubs for serious golfers, but the 907D1
is so easy to hit that just about any player could use it. With its high moment
of inertia and triangular design, the D1 is the company’s most technologically
advanced driver, designed to hit the ball high and straight. (The D2 has a more
traditional shape that allows players to work the ball more.)
The test club, 9.5 degrees and with a stiff-flex Aldila VS Proto 65 shaft, performed best at swing speeds of 95 to 100 miles per hour. Faster swingers produced a little too much spin. While they didn’t take to the irregular shape immediately, our testers appreciated the square face, which allowed them to make aggressive swings. “I’ve played every Titleist driver from the 975D to the 905R,” says a 5, “and this is definitely the most forgiving. It doesn’t have the classic Titleist shape, but what club does these days?” |
