As the hybrid market has exploded in recent years, Titleist has been content to
let others grab a share of the $180 million market while taking time to develop
a club that would meet the exacting demands of their consumers. Our
low handicap testers say the PT 585.H, which features a heavier (85 grams) shaft
and a lower ball flight than a typical hybrid, was well worth the wait.The spin and launch numbers from our new launch-monitor tests (see
chart, below) confirm their feelings. The teardrop shape, square face and
neutral flight bias will appeal to better players. “It gives you the accuracy of
an iron with the forgiveness of a wood,” says a scratch. “Compared with other
hybrids, I feel like I have more control.”
