Cobra King Cobra L4V X

Cobra’s most technologically advanced driver comes right up to all four USGA performance limits

By: Tom Cunneff

Good players picking up Cobra drivers are used to closed faces. But our low-handicap testers were pleasantly surprised by the L4V X’s neutral angle, which allows them to release the club without fear of hooking the ball.

Further promoting straight shots is the club’s high moment of inertia, produced by a lightweight carbon crown and sole section that allowed engineers to place a tungsten weight way back in the head. In addition to resisting twisting at impact, the weighting helps produce a noticeably higher launch angle—good news for those who struggle to achieve optimal launch conditions. “I’m a low-ball hitter, but I felt like a tour player with this driver,” says a 5. “My drives were as towering as some of the shots I’ve seen the pros hit.”

MSRP: $450 (9 degrees; additional lofts available in lower ball-speed models)
