The first fairway wood from ironmaker Miura should come with a warning: No matter how good it looks, stay away unless you can seriously golf your ball. With a classic shape, square face and weighting that promotes low spin, the club works best for better players.

The performance is apparent in the numbers (especially spin rate) and in testers’ experience. From the tee and off the turf, they hit consistently flat-trajectory shots, which low handicappers love to play. And the cosmetics and performance reminded many of another niche manufacturer.

“This is the first 3-wood that I would consider replacing my Sonartec with,” says a 2. “Off the tee, I feel confident about hitting tight draws on command.”
