As long as there are men like Bob Vokey around, the craft of making golf equipment won’t soon give way to sciences like aeronautics and polymer chemistry. Vokey continues golf’s long history of artisanship that dates back to clubmakers like Allan Robertson and Old Tom Morris.Vokey’s latest work of art for Titleist is his namesake Spin Milled wedges, which have a timeless design. The line is available in two-degree increments between 48 and 64 degrees with multiple bounce options, and feature sole grinds that were previously only available to tour players. All told, there are 17 different configurations, in three finishes: chrome, oil can and black nickel.
But there is more to Vokey’s weges than classic looks. There is also plenty of technology that is cutting edge—literally. A series of micro-edges milled into face of each wedge produces face friction that is 300 percent higher than polishing. That’s particularly important on partial shots where groove depth doesn’t have much impact.
