One of our testers grew up playing Wilson Staff muscleback irons, and he still
gets misty-eyed talking about them. So he and other testers were eager to try
the Pi7, the latest players’ club from a company with a storied history.
While the Pi7 appeals to low handicaps with a smaller blade and thinner
topline, it shouldn’t be compared with its hard-to-hit predecessors. Underlying
the clean
cosmetics at address are a perimeter-weighted cavity for
forgiveness and a wider sole for playability.
“I can’t believe how high, soft
and far I can hit these,” says the tester with Staff memories, an 8. “The
forgiveness is a real help. The only drawback is that it is hard to work the
ball, especially knockdowns.”
