Unlike a regular pair of sunglasses, golf eyewear has to have a lot going for it before I’ll put it into play on the course. First of all, they need to be light in weight yet completely cover the eye so I don’t see any edges of the lens while I’m addressing the ball. Second, they need to help enhance green reading, not detract from it. And third, they need to make me look cool (I need all the help I can get!).
Check, check and check. The retego hits all the marks, perhaps because a real golfer, Justin Rose, had a good deal of input. The fashion-conscious Brit gave his opinions on everything from the colors to the temple width and lens angle. The result is a product that not only has a great style but performs, too, while protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays. Thanks to adjustable nose pads and flexible temples, the sunglasses have a secure, comfortable fit, and the tint of the distortion-free, wraparound lens really makes everything pop, enhancing the color differences between the ball, green and background.
Make that lenses. The retego, which weighs in at less than an ounce, offers a couple of lenses designed to give golfers the best view of the course depending on the conditions: LST Active, LST Contrast and LST POL all with different Rx options. The company says the “Light Stabilizing Technology” lens diminishes eye fatigue by “harmonizing” light fluctuations.
Swinging in harmony, isn’t that what it’s all about?
