Miura Limited-Edition Small Blade Irons

These blades of glory are a real throwback to the halcyon days of true shotmaking

By: Tom Cunneff

It’s hard not to like a club manufacturer like Katsuhiro Miura, who has been making forged irons for more than 50 years. At a time when companies are coming out with the biggest, most high-tech irons imaginable, Miura’s latest introduction, the Limited-Edition Small Blade, which, unbelievably, is 15 percent smaller than the company’s Tournament Blade.

“Industry fads mean nothing to me,” says Miura. “What I care about is creating the most perfect-performing golf clubs.”

Miura irons are always conversation starters, and the unique Small Blade should generate a cacophony of dialogue at a mimes’ convention. Clearly, this club is geared for a minute percentage of golfers, those who can hit the ball on the sweet spot nearly every time and can appreciate the feel and feedback the club provides.

As expected, launch numbers dropped precipitously for off-center hits, but solid strikes performed well and, more importantly, felt as sweet as any club I have ever hit.
