Miura Series 1957 Yoshitaka Wedge

The newest offering from the master Japanese clubmaker provides golfers with a lot of relief

By: Tom Cunneff

A forged iron is a work of art, and the Da Vinci of clubmakers is Katsuhiro Miura, who has been perfecting his craft for more than 50 years in Himeji, Japan.

He has passed on his creative legacy to his two sons, Yoshitaka and Shinei, with the former responsible for creating the company’s latest offering, the Series 1957 Yoshitaka wedges. The "Y" on the sole not only represents Yoshitaka’s mark, but also signifies the club’s special grind, which grew out of a number of trips the Miura family made to North America and Europe to study a variety of turf conditions. The goal was to create a sand wedge with heal and toe relief while not compromising its basic fundamentals.

Mission accomplished. The Y wedge is very versatile in a wide range of playing situations, from a flop shot off a tight lie to a bunker blast in deep, fluffy sand.

The wedges are so gorgeous, though, you might just want to get them mounted and stick them on your wall.

$209, available in four lofts (49–60 degrees); miuragolf.com
