A key to Angel Cabrera’s Masters victory was a fantastic week on the greens. He averaged 1.58 putts per green in regulation, well below his season average of 1.78.He did it with a new putter, a Ping i-Series ½ Craz-E that is 39 inches long, somewhere between standard and belly lengths, and with the help of the Momentus IDL Stroke Putting Track, which he started using at the Honda Classic in March.
IDL stands for “inside, down the line.” The device helps groove a stroke that is slightly to the inside in the backswing, but along the target line in the follow-through instead of back inside the line.
There are two tracks, one for long putts and another for short ones; both are included.
One of about 50 players (including Natalie Gulbis, pictured) using the training aid regularly, Cabrera practiced with it for 15 minutes before each round at the Masters. Tees hold the device in place on the green, while the heel of your putter rests against track throughout the stroke.
