Ping i15 irons

The newest players' iron from the Phoenix-based company has the looks and performance that will please a variety of golfers

By: Tom Cunneff

Ever since the introduction of the Eye2 iron in 1982, Ping has been at the forefront of making quality investment-cast irons. The tradition continues with the i15, a wonderful blend of form and function that will appeal to a range of players. It’s the kind of club that anyone from a mid-handicap to a pro could use (there were eights sets in play at the HP Byron Nelson Championship).

The successor to the i10, the mid-size i15 is a progressive set with the larger long irons providing more forgiveness and a higher ball flight than the mid and short irons, which allow for more workability and control. A tungsten toe weight increases the moment of inertia for better ball speed and accuracy on mis-hits, while a face-supporting custom tuning port in the cavity improves feel and sound. It’s all backed by the industry’s most comprehensive fitting program with multiple lie, shaft and grip options.

“The feel and distance are excellent, but what I like about the i15 is that it’s something I can really grow with,” say a 10. “It is forgiving enough now but it’s not something I’ll need to replace as I get better.”
