SkyCaddie boasts that having one of their rangefinders is like having a tour caddie by your side. Well, with the new SGX’s SmartClub technology, that’s never been truer. Not only will the unit give you the yardage to your target, but it will also start tracking the distances you hit your clubs—just like Stevie does for Tiger!
SmartClub Tags located in the butt end of the grip wirelessly indicate to the unit what club you’re hitting so you don’t have to input the information like you do with other units, which can slow down play and be a distraction. You can also download the data to your computer for post-game analysis or to send to a teacher. Another nice feature is that the unit will remind you when you’ve left a club behind.
The SmartClub technology is still a few months off (and at a separate cost), but there are a couple other features that make the SGX worth recommending. First and foremost are SkyCaddie’s ground-verified course maps. Every company uses satellite maps to chart courses, but only SkyCaddie walks every hole to validate critical target and green information. That’s more than 287,000 miles walked at almost 30,000 courses so far.
The interactive HoleVue feature allows users to zoom in on any point on the hole to get an up-close view of the target, as well as the distance, while the IntelliGreen feature depicts the exact shape of the green and automatically rotates to match the golfer’s angle of approach.
The SGX also has a new, sleek design with a three-inch color screen with bright images even in direct sunlight and easier navigation for people with large fingers or wearing gloves.
