Maybe the problem with your game isn’t your swing; it’s your shoes. For years, golfers have been using heavy, highly engineered, cleated footwear. But there’s a moment afoot, if you pardon the pun, for lighter, less-clunky models. At this year's Masters, Fred Couples garnered as much attention for his good play as he did for his sneaker-like Ecco Golf Street Premiers.
Now one of the tour’s more stylish players, Ryan Moore, is following suit with the TRUE linkswear tour. It's the first product of a new Dallas company, of which Moore is an investor and cofounder, and features the thinnest sole in golf, the company says. The 11-ounce, waterproof shoe has has a 2.5 mm TPU sole with 69 nubs and bars on the bottom. The design was inspired by the emerging barefoot trend in running shoes that are shifting away from big arch supports and heavily cushioned heels to a shoe that better utilizes the foot’s anatomical features.
Despite how light and low profile the shoe is, there’s still plenty of support and grip. I wore a pair during a round recently and had absolutely no stability or traction problems. And with a wide toe box, they are also extremely comfortable. You can put them on at home before your round and wear them the rest of the day.
Clearly, less is Moore.
