The Ocean Course has hosted its fair share of professional tournaments in the past. The 1991 Ryder Cup is the most famous, of course, but it also was the site of the 2007 Senior PGA Championship, as well as the 2005 PGA Club Professional, the 2003 and 1997 World Cups, and the 2001 Inaugural UBS Warburg Cup. The 2012 PGA Championship is the first major championship in South Carolina.
