The Masters

The season’s first major and the sport’s most keenly anticipated tournament, the Masters is an annual rite of spring contested each year at Augusta National, the most beautiful parkland course in the world. A cathedral of golf, the majestic layout, built by Bobby Jones and Alister MacKenzie on the site of a former nursery, rises and falls through tall Georgia pines. Beneath these pines are flowering dogwoods and thousands of pink, white, and magenta azaleas that usually burst into bloom the week of the Masters. With its brilliant stretch of risk-reward holes on the back nine, the final round on Masters Sunday often produces spine-tingling drama.
