La Cana is the perfect complement to the sandy beaches and tall coconuts palms at Puntacana Resort & Club. The course is one of the longest in the Caribbean at 7,152 yards from the tips. Its fairways are carpeted with fine Seashore Paspalum, an unusual turfgrass that not only can be irrigated with straight seawater, but also requires half the normal amount of pesticides and fertilizers.

Another spectacular seaside course, to be called “Corales,” will begin construction in 2005 and open for play in 2006. It will be sited along the north shore of the resort in a small enclave of luxurious vacation homes where famed Dominican couturier Oscar de la Renta, and megastars Julio Iglesias and Mikhail Baryshnikov have beachfront residences, which they visit throughout the year.
