7. Valderrama (1997)

The European squad escaped with a one-point win in Andalusia in an event that marked the Ryder Cup debut of Tiger Woods, who went a lackluster 1–1–3 in the sessions. Valderrama is one of Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s most famous works and bears many of his stylistic hallmarks—runway tees, large greens, and sweeping, ovoid bunkers. The course is "only" 6,390 yards from the tips, but as with many layouts on bold properties, you can throw out the scorecard—the topography creates plenty of challenge, as do the scores of gnarled old cork trees that define the playing corridors.
