Tucked away in the southwest corner of New Hampshire near the Vermont and Massachusetts state lines, this 36-hole facility offers plenty of charm (covered bridges), value, and challenge. The gently rolling North Course, stitched across an old farm beside the Ashuelot River, brings several ponds and wooded areas into play. The tougher South Course is known for “Jurassic Park,” a scintillating stretch of holes from 15–17 flanked by thick woods and swampland. The South’s long par-four 18th is rated one of the toughest finishing holes in New England. Weekday rate for walkers is $38 Monday–Friday, $46 weekends. Bretwood also promotes an all-day weekday rate of $48.
