It is no exaggeration to say that Donald Ross played a huge role in shaping golf in the United States. During the first half of the 20th century, he designed more than 400 courses, including Seminole, Oak Hill, and Inverness.
While many of Ross’ best courses, including the three mentioned above, are private, he left behind a legacy that includes scores of courses that are open to the public, including his master work, Pinehurst No. 2.
While Pinehurst stands as one of golf’s meccas, largely because of Ross’ contribution, there are plenty of other courses where you can enjoy his design trademarks like his natural routings, effective use of hazards to create angles, and, of course, his crowned greens.
Every golfer should get to Pinehurst once in his or her lifetime. Most should also check out his other top courses you can play.
