Duke University
Durham, N.C.
Duke originally hired Perry Maxwell in the 1930s to design a course, but the plans were interrupted by World War II. The university then tapped Robert Trent Jones Sr. to design a course that opened in 1957. More than three decades later, Jones’ son Rees renovated the 7,045-yard layout, which is also part of the Washington Duke Inn, which has 271 rooms.
