5. Orchards Golf Club

Mount Holyoke College
South Hadley, Mass.

How unlikely that Mount Holyoke, one of the Seven Sisters, is home to one of the best collegiate golf courses in the country. But this liberal arts college for women in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts received the 6,424-yard Donald Ross layout in 1941 from Joseph Skinner, a Mount Holyoke trustee. After a 21st century renovation by Arnold Palmer, the Orchards hosted the 2004 U.S. Women’s Open.
