Head of the Class

Our first-ever ranking of the top 25 college golf courses

Some pretty big names have gone back to school to design collegiate golf courses. Architects like C.B. Macdonald (Yale), Robert Trent Jones Sr. (Cornell, Georgia, Duke), Pete Dye (Purdue) and Tom Doak (Texas Tech) have left their mark on campuses around the country.

And in a rare feat that may be unthinkable today, Alister MacKenzie designed courses for archrivals Michigan and Ohio State. Not surprisingly, both Golden Age layouts hold high places on our first-ever ranking of the top 25 college golf courses.

While our list contains a mix of old and new, the top spot belongs to Karsten Creek, a big, challenging, modern Tom Fazio design built specifically to help the Oklahoma State golf team prepare for tournaments.
