21. Birdwood Golf Course

After buying a tract of farmland, the University of Virginia hired Lindsay Ervin in 1984 to design 6,865 yards. In addition to being the home course for the Cavaliers’ men’s and women’s golf teams, Birdwood is an amenity for the 170-room Boar’s Head Inn, which was constructed from the timbers of an old mill dating from 1834.
