Hilton Head Island, S.C.
ALTHOUGH PETE DYE WAS THE LEAD DESIGNER, it was Jack Nicklaus who introduced Dye to developer Charles Fraser. But Nicklaus was more than a dealmaker. He made 23 site visits to the course, which opened in 1969 to glowing reviews from tour players who enjoyed the challenges offered by the strategic design with narrow fairways and small greens. Forty-two years later, Harbour Town is one of the top public courses in the country and remains one of the favorite stops on the PGA Tour (for now). |
