A first-rate 36-hole facility built in the mid-1990s, Grayhawk’s Talon and Raptor courses, like its distinctive wood-and-sandstone clubhouse, was designed to blend into the desert. Talon, built by David Graham and Gary Panks, is a visually arresting, target-style links routed around box canyons, drainage canals, and sandy arroyos, with island greens, and massive berms on display. Raptor, designed by Tom Fazio, is a subtler test marked by wide corridors, large greens, sculpted bunkers, and clever risk-reward scenarios. Native plants and trees, including ironwood, ocotillo, mesquite, and palo verde, were used to landscape both courses, as were hundreds of transplanted saguaros and barrel cacti.
