Merion

Golf was a different game the last time the U.S. Open was played on Merion’s East Course in Ardmore, Pa. in 1981. Back then, David Graham played persimmon woods, forged irons and a balata ball to craft a flawless final-round 67 to claim victory. The course, known for its wicker baskets, Scotch broom, and Hogan’s famous 1-iron shot, has been stretched to 6,996 yards (par 70), petite by today’s championship standards. Expect this fabled venue outside Philadelphia to hold its own.
