At the Old Tabby Links in Spring Island, S.C., we converted one of the weaker holes into an option-filled, attention-getting par four

OLD TABBY is a great course in a beautiful marshland setting, and the historic tabby ruins make it something special. The 11th isn’t on the marsh but it’s a hole I’m very proud of in the wake of the extensive changes we made during a recent restoration. Today, native grasses combine with bunkers and landforms to make the hole look a lot harder than it really is. There are actually a number of landing areas for the tee shot, but choosing the correct one—and avoiding the cross bunkers—is part of the strategic challenge. We’ve also added a tee that, under the right circumstances, makes this a drivable par four. Bottom line, this is now a hole that rivets your attention.
