The golf development industry has effectively thudded to a halt, but there are few bright prospects on the horizon this year. Tom Doak will debut a second 18 at Dismal River Club in Mullen, Neb. this summer. On the Big Island of Hawaii near Kailua-Kona, Kohanaiki, a private club and residential community, will open its Rees Jones-designed oceanfront course in March. In partnership with Greg Norman, the City of Pompano Beach, Fla. will unveil its refurbished Pines Golf Course, a muni, this month. In Central America, David McLay Kidd’s Guacalito Golf Course (pictured), on Nicaragua’s Pacific coast, is a resort layout that winds through a tropical forest and finishes on the beach. After years of delays, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Baha Mar in Nassau, the Bahamas, centerpiece of a 1,000-acre, $3.5 billion resort, gaming and entertainment complex, is slated to open in December.
