Yes, Muirfield is one of the ten or so greatest courses in the world and, along with the Old Course, the pre-eminent championship links in the British Isles. It's bound to be a compelling Open. But as the USGA has begun to include less-traditional venues like Chambers Bay and Erin Hills alongside traditional hosts like Oakmont and Winged Foot, the R&A may also wish to consider some new blood for the rota.
