The American Club Resort Hotel

Kohler, Wis.

Pete Dye doesn’t build ‘em easy, so you can double the torture at this storybook resort an hour’s drive north of Milwaukee. Best bet is to mix ‘n match courses from the Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits facilities, each boasting 36 holes. The Straits Course, Dye’s lakeside tour de force, is a must-play (walkers-only, caddies required), but don’t overlook the River and Meadow Valleys courses at Blackwolf Run, a composite of which hosted the 2012 U.S. Women’s Open. A discounted twilight and replay rate of $130 applies to the Meadow Valleys and Irish courses, with 9-hole twilight rates available for the indefatigable.
