The pros are competing this week at Riviera Country Club, a venerable PGA Tour venue that winds through the Santa Monica Canyon on the outskirts of Los Angeles. And while visitors without Tour credentials may not be able to get a whiff of this eucalyptus-scented George C. Thomas masterpiece, a handful of first-rate public-access courses, some with fabulous ocean views, can be found within an hour’s drive of Hollywood.
