Ginn is heavily invested on the pro tours, already having sponsored two events on the LPGA Tour and one on the Champions Tour this year. The company completes the trifecta at the PGA Tour's Ginn sur Mer Classic at Tesoro in Port St. Lucie, Florida. With just two weeks left in the season, there will be plenty at stake for players tackling the development's 7,381-yard, par-73 Arnold Palmer-designed layout. In addition to the annual scramble for the top 125 on the money list to retain full playing privileges, there is once again a large carrot dangling for players finishing in the top 30: an invitation to the 2008 Masters.
Rookie George McNeill, for example, jumped from the race for the former into one for the latter by winning the Frys.com Open. "I want to play in the Masters," he said after his win in Las Vegas.
McNeill will join 131 others at Tesoro, which ends with alternating birdie and challenging holes, a finish that could make for exciting score board-hopping on Sunday. No. 15 is a difficult par 4 of 460 yards that plays into the prevailing wind, followed by a 502-yard par 5 that should yield some eagles.
Players will do well to make par on the 225-yard 17th. Should they give up a shot there, they will have a chance to make it up on the finishing hole; good drives on the 401-yard 18th will leave short approaches and plenty of makeable birdie opportunities.
Tesoro is one of LINKS Magazine's 100 Premier Properties for 2007–08 and is planning another course, by Tom Watson.
