Longaberger Golf Club

A pampered parkland daily-fee built out of profits from woven wicker

By: Allen Allnoch

One look at the Longaberger Company’s headquarters building leaves little doubt about its core product: The seven-story structure is disguised as a woven picnic basket. Indeed, Longaberger is renowned for its handcrafted baskets and other domestics, but these days, tee times at its nine-year-old golf course are equally in demand.

Longaberger has perfected the “country club for a day” experience. Its 60,000-square-foot clubhouse is immaculate, service is impeccable and the 7,243-yard course—set on 800 acres of ridgetop, meadow and forest with barely a glimpse of housing—is one of Arthur Hills’ best designs ever.
