The Cylindropuntia fulgida, a type of cactus better known as the Jumping Cholla, is the most-hyped of the dangerous cacti, but there really is no jumping involved. Unless you brush up against one and the needles break off into your skin. Then you will jump from the pain. The ball goes into a cholla a lot faster than it comes out—leave it there. Or very carefully use a long iron to retrieve it, if it’s the last ball in your bag.
