Coral Gables

Built in the Roaring Twenties by a visionary developer on 3,000 acres of undeveloped land west of Miami, the planned community of Coral Gables was dubbed “The City Beautiful.” Marked by tree-lined boulevards, ornate plazas, and gurgling fountains inspired by architectural motifs drawn from Seville, Cartagena, and other Spanish cities, this hamlet’s landmark is the Biltmore Hotel, its soaring tower a brilliant evocation of the Mediterranean Revival style. In addition to superb dining, a world-class spa, and the nation’s largest hotel swimming pool, the 275-room resort is home to a recently restored Donald Ross-designed course.
