Daytona Beach, Fla.

Famous for its big speedway, bikini-clad spring breakers, and a hard-packed ocean beach where land speed records were set in the 1930s by daredevils driving airplane-engined cars, Daytona Beach, located in Florida's central coast region an hour's drive east of Orlando, is known for just about everything but golf. But this fun-loving community has several excellent layouts, including nearby Hammock Beach Resort (Ocean and Conservatory courses), LPGA International (Champions and Legends), and Victoria Hills in Deland, a superb Pinehurst-style layout. Spring, when daytime temperatures hover in the low '80s and a sea breeze cools the fairways, is the best time to visit.
