Down the River

The top 25 courses you can play along the Mississippi River

The Mississippi River is the backbone of the American heartland. During its 2,340-mile voyage, it touches 10 states, offering not only an important economic lifeline for much of the country but also inspiring some of America's greatest writers, like Mark Twain and William Faulker. And it's certainly no coincidence that two of the country's greatest music cities, Memphis and New Orleans, sit on the mighty Mississippi.

When it comes to geography, the Mississippi is usually the dividing line between East and West, symbolized by the great Gateway Arch in St. Louis. But rather than highlight the best courses you can play either east or west of the Mississippi, we celebrate the 25 best layouts along the great American river.

So follow along with us as we journey down the Mississippi in search of great golf, beginning at the lakes of Minnesota and heading south toward the Gulf of Mexico.
