Much of the early history of American golf was written in New England. The first U.S. Open was played at Newport Country Club in Rhode Island, and from 1898 to 1908, Massachusetts was the site of four Opens.
Then in 1913, The Country Club outside Boston was the scene of Francis Ouimet’s upset win, which boosted the popularity of golf in this country.
This week, the PGA Tour returns to New England for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, just outside Hartford, Connecticut. And we celebrate the region by recognizing the top 25 golf resorts in New England.
Whether you like going to the mountains or the coast, escape the heat and humidity of summer by visiting one of these properties that combine a quaint atmosphere, scenic views and great golf.
