North Truro, Mass.
One of the best courses in the National Park System is a 9-holer out near the tip of Cape Cod that may be as close to a true links experience as one can get on this side of the Atlantic. Highland Links was founded in 1892, making it the first public course on the cape, carved into dunes through deep natural rough and all manner of vegetation reminiscent of Scotland. There are great views of the ocean as well as Cape Cod Light, the oldest lighthouse on the peninsula—originally built in 1857—and still in operation. The Highland Links website features a lovely video of the course’s rich history.
