Myrtle Beach, S.C.

When all else fails, there’s always Myrtle, the jaunty seaside town that holds perennial appeal for winter-weary golfers. Set back from the “Grand Strand,” a 60-mile stretch of firm-packed ocean beach, are dozens of public-access courses that range from excellent (The Dunes, Caledonia, TPC Myrtle Beach, Tidewater, Barefoot Resort) to pretty darn good for the money. You’ll encounter huge beachwear emporiums, Skee-Ball arcades, and Jurassic Park-style miniature golf courses, but this revitalized “Redneck Riviera” never fails to offer genuine Southern hospitality. Myrtle is at her best in April, when the weather is sunny and mild.
