The Prairie Club

Pure golf, an unforgettable location on the rim of Nebraska’s Snake River Canyon, and one of golf’s best values make this semi-private resort worth the trip

Quick. Name the country’s best overnight golf destination. Hint: it’s not on either coast.

The Prairie Clublocated deep in America’s heartland in the Sand Hills region of western Nebraska, was honored as the "Best Overnight Golf Destination" by Golf Digest shortly after it opened in 2010.

And with good reason.

To begin with, the landscape is stunningly beautiful and unlike what you may be used to seeing at top golf resort destinations. Stands of ponderosa pine edge the rim of the Snake River Canyon on one of the 18-hole championship courses; a rolling seascape of prairie grass against the backdrop of endless sky paints an unforgettable portrait on the other.

This is prairie golf and, as far as golf escapes go, it’s as good as it gets.

There are two award-winning 18-hole courses here, the Pines Course and the Dunes Course. Both were ranked in the top 10 of the best new places you can play when they opened. And the accolades from national golf publications keep rolling in.

The Dunes, currently in the LINKS100 U.S. rankings, is a Tom Lehman and Chris Brands design that takes full advantage of the Sand Hills' windswept landscape. With the welcoming prairie winds, it plays much like a seaside links layout.

The Pines, designed by Australian Graham Marsh, begins in the prairie and meanders through a forest of pines. The trees lining the fairways and the western wall of the Snake River Canyon act as a natural barrier from the elements.

Getting here is half the fun. Though The Prairie Club is within a few hundred miles of some major Midwestern cities (Sioux Falls and Rapid City, South Dakota, are the closest) and both commercial and private flights can get you fairly close, you are guaranteed a scenic drive to reach this destination.

Once here, you’ll stay in the resort’s comfortably appointed Lodge that captures the spirit and hospitality of the prairie.

You’ll find their Stay & Play packages deliver some of the best value in golf. Rates start at $499 and include complimentary breakfast each morning, a complimentary caddie for your first round, and one round of golf on your day of arrival, plus one round for each night of lodging. You can upgrade to unlimited golf for your entire stay for $100.
