The Resort at Pelican Hill

Newport Coast

A stylish Italianate hideaway set on a hill high above the surfing hotspot of Newport Beach south of Los Angeles, Pelican Hill achieved instant renown when its pair of Tom Fazio-designed courses debuted in 1991. Because four of its holes are routed on bluffs above the beach, Ocean South is a guest favorite, but Ocean North, etched across a plateau creased by ravines 300 feet above the Pacific, is the stronger test. The new hotel, a stylish adaptation of Palladian architecture, has it all, from exceptional dining and a luxurious spa to deluxe bungalows and villas with wood-beam ceilings, limestone fireplaces and spacious terraces with ocean views. Guests can relax at Crystal Cove Beach, or join a guided hike or bike excursion through Irvine Ranch Land Reserve, a 50,000-acre nature preserve.
