Seaview Hotel 100th anniversary update, Snake River course reopens after five years, 'Man v. Golf' at Treetops, and more

Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club in Galloway, N.J., site of this week’s ShopRite LPGA Classic, has updated its classic Donald Ross-designed Bay Course as part of the resort’s 100th anniversary. Located just minutes from Atlantic City, Seaview, a landmark 36-hole property overlooking Reeds Bay, has a storied golf history in the region, having hosted presidents, movie stars, royalty, entertainers, and professional golfers ranging from Gene Sarazen to Nancy Lopez. Highlighting the Bay Course renovations are new tee boxes, a new bunker complex between the 4th and 5th holes, new GPS units in the golf carts, improved on-course yardage markers, and new retro wooden bunker rakes and flag pins. The resort also offers the Turtle Course, a 9-hole putting course opened in 2012; and an Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa. Golf packages are available.

In a sign the second-home vacation market may be rebounding, the Tom Weiskopf-designed course at the Snake River Sporting Club, a private four-season residential community in Jackson Hole, Wyo. has reopened for play after a five-year closure. The club’s 7,533-yard course flanks the Snake River, a blue-ribbon fly-fishing stream, and borders the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Weiskopf returned to direct a $5 million course makeover that included the resurfacing of every green with bentgrass and the restoration of all bunkers. The picturesque, walker-friendly course, framed by cottonwoods, aspens, and pines, is complemented by a 26,000-square-foot log and stone clubhouse and three new luxury lodge cabins set above Martin Creek that are available for purchase starting at $2.5 million.

How many different golf courses can you play in one day? Two? Three? More? Treetops Resort in Gaylord, Mich. has thrown down the gauntlet, inviting diehards to a “Man v. Golf" endurance test. Taking its cue from the popular Man v. Food reality TV show, the resort is challenging fit, avid golfers to play four courses in one day (a total of 63 holes) at its Treetops North complex. In addition to a superb line-up of courses designed by Tom Fazio and Rick Smith, the resort's location in northern Michigan, at the western edge of the Eastern Time Zone near the 45th Parallel, allows golfers to tee off early in the morning and play until 9:45 p.m. (or later) during the summer months. Golfers who complete the challenge will be recognized by a plaque in the golf shop; receive a commemorative Treetops gift; and also be registered to win a golf vacation package in 2015. The cost of the challenge starts at $149, depending on the time of year it is booked. Golfers can add a room to the package for $89.
