Loosely defined, the Gulf Coast of the U.S. runs from the southwest tip of Florida up through the state's panhandle and into the southern shores of Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. But the defining characteristics of each of these regions is so distinctively different, it's difficult to generalize about the area's appeal. The exception is Gulf Coast golf, which can best be described as flat-out, across-the-board magnificent.
The courses found along the Gulf Coast share attributes that would appeal to golfers of all ages and ability levels. The lush conditioning and idyllic year-round temperatures set the stage, against stunning backdrops of tropical forests, wildlife-laden wetlands, pristine coastal rivers and the Gulf itself. Millions visit every year, lured by the fairways and greens as well as the picturesque beaches, myriad outdoor activities, terrific regional cuisine, plentiful shopping and abundant cultural attractions. Not surprising, many decide to stay for good.
Florida's Gulf Coast regions each offer a unique appeal. The "Cultural Coast" area from Sarasota to Naples boasts a rich legacy in the arts and remains a haven for artists and musicians, enveloped in natural beauty that includes lush tropical foliage, white sandy beaches and breathtaking sunsets. Farther north is the aptly named "Emerald Coast," along the northwest Florida panhandle, with deep emerald green water and crystal quartz beaches that rank among the country's best.
It's the ideal time of the year for a Gulf Coast sojourn. We think you'll find it easily accessible - and impossible to forget...
