Despite the fact that most Open Championship courses disdain buggies, Muirfield was the setting last week for the first look at a Mercedes-Benz golf cart. It’s all-electric and features LED headlights, joystick control, heads-up display, solar roof panel, heating and cooling, refrigerator, cup holders that both warm and chill beverages, something called a “Fore button,” and all sorts of other out-of-the-box ideas, plus, of course, storage space for golf bags. The features were suggested, Mercedes swears, by real golfers around the world. And like other “concept car” designs, there’s little likelihood such a vehicle will ever actually be built. Which may be why only sketches were shown and no price was given.
