The Perfect Round

It moved one man to tears. It stunned the others in attendance that day in April of 2011. That’s when an IT manager named Rick Baird shot a perfect round—of putt-putt golf. That’s right: 18 strokes on 18 holes. A new documentary details the round, which took place during a Professional Putters Association event in Richmond, Virginia. There were no windmills or clown’s mouths on the layout, just slight uphills, downhills, forced angles and a number of back rail shots. But Baird one-putted them all, with his final putt was captured on video. Baird has been playing putt-putt since he was 10 years old. “I found the one thing I was good at it and just kept sticking with it,” he said. Not impressed by this very rare moment in putt-putt history? As one of Baird’s fellow competitors says in the documentary, “It’s a skill. It’s an art. Try it sometime if you don’t believe it.”
